Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight: Tim Foxon
Posted on 3 September 2025
This month we have asked Tim Foxon to contribute to our Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight series, in which current Castlefield Gallery Associates share their thoughts on what the programme offers and how it has been useful for them.
Can you tell us a little bit about your practice?
Everything I make or draw is of a playful nature, often one liners or intended to make you smile. The sculptures and illustrations are made up of combinations of commonplace items. Everyday things are completely reappropriated, simply through being placed or paired with another readymade object. Scale has forever played a big part in a lot of things I make, putting together items of totally different proportions has always been funny to me. It creates ridiculous situations where you can attach your own back story as to what has happened or is about to happen.

How did you hear about Castlefield Gallery Associates and why did you want to join?
I heard about the associates programme during Chester Contemporary; a friend of mine was working in one of the New Art Spaces: Chester studios and told me that there were spaces available. The past few years my studios have been spare rooms, garages and sheds. So, the opportunity to have access to a huge space with other artists was a no brainer.
What are you looking forward to most about your coming year’s membership?
We’ve recently had our second child, so life has been pretty hectic. It will be a nice escape to be able to use the studio for some peace and quiet! I have a couple of exhibitions to get ready for. One of which was an open call that was brought to my attention by the associates programme.
