Volunteer Spotlight: Mike Cullen

Posted on 20 July 2022

This month we have asked Mike Cullen to contribute to our new Volunteer Spotlight series where we are asking volunteers to share their experience with us.

Thank you to our fabulous volunteers for contributing to the continued success of Castlefield Gallery.

Hi Mike! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
I’m from Manchester, I went to art school in Salford and I’ve also lived in Sydney and Dublin. I’ve been volunteering at Castlefield Gallery for 11 years although 2020 was a bit of a write off.

What made you want to volunteer here?
Ever since I was at art school in the early 90’s I’ve known of the existence of Castlefield Gallery and I’ve been to see exhibitions there. Volunteering at Castlefield Gallery was something I was interested in.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?
The best thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery, is that I get to see all the exhibitions there!

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
I would tell them that they can bring a book for quiet moments – but don’t forget to put it away when visitors come in!
