CASTLEFIELD GALLERY ACHIEVES GALLERY CLIMATE COALITION ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP FOR 2025/26

Posted on 21 May 2026

We have once again achieved Active Member status with the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), recognising our continued commitment to environmental responsibility and climate action within the visual arts sector. This marks the gallery’s third consecutive year as an Active Member.

The status reflects our ongoing work to monitor, measure and reduce our environmental impact, alongside embedding environmental awareness across our wider programme and artist development activity. Through our annual reporting, the gallery remains committed to transparency, accountability, and long-term action in response to the climate emergency.

Alongside this, environmental thinking continues to shape our organisation’s wider activity, from initiatives like SPARK, Castlefield Gallery’s artist network responding to the climate crisis, through to our core exhibition programme. Our current exhibition Out Here (3 May – 19 July) is all about artists who work in and with nature. Where possible, we embed environmental best practice into our public programmes, partnerships, and knowledge-sharing activities developed with artists and communities.

As a North-West based organisation operating in a region with some of the highest reported emissions nationally, Castlefield Gallery recognises the importance of regional leadership, collective action, and sustaining long-term cultural change within the sector.

We are proud to be an Active Member. Active Membership with the Gallery Climate Coalition reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible practice, collaboration, and supporting artists and audiences to engage with environmental issues through contemporary art.
