We’re Finalists in Manchester Culture Awards 2026!
Posted on 19 October 2026
Two Castlefield Gallery projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Manchester Culture Awards, celebrating the power of creativity and community across Manchester.
Champions of Equality and Social Justice
ANEW Way to Peel an Orange has been nominated for Champions of Equality and Social Justice. Together with our partners ANEW and Portraits of Recovery, this exhibition displayed new artwork made by Joe Hartley and the ANEW recovery community during a five month creative residency in Tameside (Greater Manchester, UK).
This exhibition project celebrated creative co-production and community voices. Through ceramics, photography, murals and the creation of a new gallery “garden”, the project explored how art can be used in both recovery and wellbeing.

Our Planet – Acting on Climate Change
Remember Nature 2025, Nature Remembered was nominated for Our Planet – Acting on Climate Change. This event was led by artist Yu-Chen Wang and Castlefield Gallery, bringing together partners Hulme Community Garden Centre, Manchester Art Gallery, Unity Radio and Venture Arts.
An artist-led walk across the city of Manchester and community gathering featuring screenings, broadcasts and creative activities, the project connected environmental organisations and local communities. Together, they responded in solidarity to Gustav Metzger’s call to “Remember Nature” on the 4th of November.

We’re incredibly proud of and grateful to everyone involved in bringing these projects to life. Both nominations recognise the importance of sharing knowledge, art-making across communities and compassion for each other and the world around us.
Congratulations to all the finalists, and thank you to Manchester City Council for this recognition!
