We’re exhibiting in The Manchester Contemporary 2026

Posted on 27 October 2026

We’re excited to once again be exhibiting at The Manchester Contemporary 2026 with the ANEW Recovery Community.

The Manchester Contemporary is a curated showcase of independent galleries, artist-led spaces and emerging artists, offering the chance to encounter exciting new talent and fresh perspectives.

Castlefield Gallery and the ANEW recovery community have been working together to explore how art and recovery can inform each other. ANEW is a recovery community and support organisation working across Greater Manchester/ based in Tameside. Our partnership began with ANEW Way to Peel an Orange, a collaborative project with artist and designer Joe Hartley and Portraits of Recovery (PORe) the UK’s only visual arts charity inspiring and supporting people affected by and in recovery from substance use (Recoverists).

ANEW Way to Peel an Orange brought together ceramics, photography, furniture making, gardening, growing and other forms of shared making. This work has developed into ANEW Decade, an ongoing collaboration creating permanent spaces for creative activity within ANEW’s services, including an artist studio and co-production space in Denton and a growing and making space at ANEW’s allotment. Supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Collaborate fund, the project will provide opportunities for artists and the ANEW community to develop new work, share skills and connect with recovery communities across Greater Manchester.
