Castlefield Gallery Achieves Gallery Climate Coalition Active Membership

Posted on 4 February 2026

Castlefield Gallery has once again achieved Active Member status with the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), recognising the organisation’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and climate action within the visual arts sector. This marks the second year that the Gallery has been an Active Member.

The status reflects Castlefield Gallery’s active approach to measuring and reducing its environmental impact. The gallery is among the 57% of Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisations to submit environmental data via the Creative Climate Tools, and one of just 366 NPOs to report detailed energy data.

Benchmarked against comparable visual arts organisations, Castlefield Gallery records significantly lower electricity and water consumption, alongside a reduction in overall emissions in the most recent reporting year. This contrasts with a 32% rise in total reported sector emissions and a 16% increase in energy-related emissions across the sector.*

As a North-based organisation operating in a region with the highest reported emissions nationally, Castlefield Gallery recognises the importance of regional leadership and transparency. Active Membership with the GCC marks an ongoing commitment to responsible operations, public accountability, and sector-wide collaboration in addressing the climate emergency.
