Volunteer Spotlight: Ria Thakur

Posted on 29 March 2023

This month we have asked Volunteer Ria Thakur to contribute to our Volunteer Spotlight series where we are asking volunteers to share their experience with us.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for contributing to the continued success of Castlefield Gallery.

Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?

I have been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery since November 2022 while pursuing my bachelors in History of Art (Hons) from the University of Manchester. I have also been working for my university as a student ambassador, Manchester calling campaign assistant, Student Fundraiser and Open Day ambassador. Currently, I am pursuing a research project on Quantifying Cultural Value using Socio-Economic Factors – Beyond Measurement under Dr Leandro Valiati.

What made you want to volunteer here?
I wanted to understand more about how a gallery operates and its administration whilst being around the works of emerging artists. Due to this, Castlefield Gallery seemed to be a great fit for my field of interests.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?
Castlefield Gallery has really good opportunities to offer: I can attend the gallery previews, artist talks and networking events, as well as meet people who are directly or indirectly connected to the art sector. It provides a wider view of opportunities in terms of making a career in this field. What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
The staff is extremely welcoming, I think that you will definitely have a great time. Also, make sure to make the most of all the opportunities that they offer.
