Volunteer Spotlight: Beth Clark

Posted on 22 February 2023

This month we have asked Volunteer Photographer Beth Clark to contribute to our Volunteer Spotlight series where we are asking volunteers to share their experience with us.

Thank you to all our volunteers for their amazing work!

Hi Beth! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?

I have been volunteering at Castlefield Gallery since March 2022 alongside the last few months of my Photography undergraduate degree at the University of Salford. Since graduating last summer, I have started a masters, Art Gallery and Museum Studies, at the University of Manchester. I also work part time at The Lowry as a bartender, so close but so far to the gallery! I’m originally from Sheffield so I have always been surrounded by creativity, nature and hard workers, something I try to reflect when documenting and curating.

What made you want to volunteer here?

Part of it was gaining more photography experience outside of my undergraduate degree, but I also wanted to help out and support local galleries. Castlefield Gallery appealed to me especially because of its support of local artists and unique, innovative exhibitions.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?

Although I love documenting various artist talks and exhibition openings, meeting and talking to new people in the art realm is really rewarding. I get to hear and see what other people are creating and imagining. It’s a really therapeutic environment because of the art and people, and I always leave feeling energised.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
Do it! Everyone is so lovely and welcoming. You’ll also be surrounded by talent and creativity. It’s a wonderful experience.
