Looking to kick-start or grow international opportunities?

Dr Sam Lackey, Director of Liverpool Biennial, and artist Mishka Henner will discuss their experiences of working internationally in the visual arts. They will share their unique insights and learning useful to Castlefield Gallery Associates. There will be an opportunity for Q&A. November’s Castlefield Gallery Associates’ event will be hosted by Castlefield Gallery Head of Programmes, Matthew Pendergast. The event will be recorded, and after the event, it will be shared via the Castlefield Gallery website Associates Resources page.

Dr. Sam Lackey 

Dr. Samantha Lackey has held the position of Director at Liverpool Biennial since late 2020. She joined the Biennial from her role as Head of Collection and Exhibitions at the Whitworth at the University of Manchester. Before this she was curator at The Hepworth Wakefield (2010-16), where she was part of the team that opened the gallery in 2011 to critical acclaim. Her background is in academia, receiving a PhD in 2005 in the subject of surrealism, which was the context of her work as a lecturer, research fellow and her first co-curated exhibition at the Whitworth, ‘Subversive Spaces: Surrealism and Contemporary Art.’ She has published on surrealism and contemporary art and worked on multiple group and solo exhibitions with artists including Cecily Brown, Susan Hefuna, Linder and Eva Rothschild. Sam is also a member of the Turner Prize 2025 jury also sits on the Executive Board of the International Biennial Association and is a Co-Director of Contemporary Visual Arts Network North West.

Mishka Henner

Mishka Henner, born in Brussels in 1976, lives in Manchester and works internationally. He produces books, films, and photographic and sculptural works that reflect on cultural and industrial infrastructures – with a focus on the digital terrain and subjects of cultural and geo-political interest. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Centre Pompidou, Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
