Join us for our next Castlefield Gallery Associates event with Kat Wood, who will be talking to us about setting up and running your own creative spaces, places and projects.

Wood is an artist and creative producer, leading projects for Where The Light Gets In, Stockport and The Landing CIC, a rooftop garden and public space in Stockport that uses art, growing and cooking to connect people with the land and with each other.

During this event, Wood will reflect on her own experiences of breaking into the arts sector, sharing how she moved from waiting for opportunities to creating her own. Wood will also talk about the necessary practical skills she has developed along the way, from securing funding to completing risk assessments and everything in between that it takes to make spaces safe, accessible, and genuinely welcoming for other artists and members of the public.

Kat Wood

Wood’s practice is rooted in collaboration, place, and the politics of food, informed by previous work at Art Works South Yorkshire, a non-profit supporting adults with learning disabilities. Kat has developed and delivered creative projects ranging from exhibitions and panel discussions to large-scale street parties. Across her work, Wood aims to bridge urban and rural perspectives, enable skill-sharing, and explore how creativity can build environmental resilience and imagine alternative futures.
