More about the Course

The MA in Contemporary Fine Art is a course that emphasises how making is informed by theory to enable you to view, critique, and challenge the way we experience the world.

As a practical course, there is a strong emphasis on making alongside situating your practice within a professional context, which is locally based, through industry partnerships, and extends to a universal global context. There is a framework of making, research and ideas that compliment and enmesh with each other in a dynamic of stimulus, response and exchange. A range of para-disciplinary approaches are available alongside more established modes of creating, providing the opportunity to question, explore, learn, test, develop and refine your artistic individuation.

Studying within our professional studios and workshops at the New Adelphi campus. You will have access to print, textiles, photography, wood, and metal workshops, and well as the latest cutting-edge industry technology in our digital labs including digital print and textiles, 3D modelling, immersive technologies, sound recording and film studios all on campus.

You will be taught by practising artists, each with national and international reputations, who will encourage you to consider your practice beyond the traditional studio setting, exploring work made though site-specific, environmental, digital, and residency-based contexts. The course prides itself on partnerships with a whole range of professional organisations, including our bespoke collaboration with Castlefield Art Gallery which is central to the programme.

You will also benefit from working with peers across the wider MA Art and Design programme learning with students from across Socially engaged arts to design to promote multi-disciplinary practice and collaboration.
