It Requires Getting Lost: Live!
Led by exhibiting artists Gregory Herbert, Malik Jama and Jocelyn McGregor.
This is an in-person event at Castlefield Gallery.
Join us for an afternoon of live activation in the gallery!
Like an expanded tour of the exhibition, this event will be an opportunity to meet the three commissioned artists Gregory Herbert, Malik Jama and Jocelyn McGregor, who made new works for our current exhibition It Require Getting Lost which are exhibited alongside works they selected with us from the David and Indrė Robert’s Collection.
The event will begin with live projection mapping, digital drawing and animation by Malik Jama which will be accompanied by a bespoke sound piece by Jama not normally included in the exhibition.
This will be followed by three performers activating Jocelyn McGregor’s performance sculpture Karst Window (2025).
The event will also include an introduction by Gregory Herbert to his piece Well wishing, wishing well (2025) followed by an additional screening of an experimental 8mm collaborative short film made with participants at the gallery just two weeks before.
To conclude the event, the artists will be joined by Sarah Boulter, Curator and Creative Producer at Venture Arts – one of the exhibition partners – and Castlefield Gallery’s Head of Programmes Matthew Pendergast for a discussion about the process of developing the exhibition, the thoughts and experiences they shared along the way.

It Requires Getting Lost is the result of a unique partnership between the Roberts Institute of Art (RIA), Venture Arts and Castlefield Gallery. Three artists working in the North of England –– Gregory Herbert, Malik Jama and Jocelyn McGregor –– have been invited by the partner organisations to work in dialogue with one another and in response to major works from one of the UK’s most significant private collections, the David and Indrė Roberts Collection (managed by RIA). These major works, co-selected by all involved, will be featured in the exhibition.
