Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight: Crónán Creagh

Posted on 4 November 2025

This month, we have asked Crónán Creagh to contribute to our Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight series, in which current Castlefield Gallery Associates share their thoughts on what the programme offers and how it has been useful for them.

Can you tell us a little bit about your practice?

My practice initially started as a form of self-exploration through photography which led to a lot of introspection and short breaks in my artistic work over the years. I now consider myself a bit of a re-emerging artist and I am interested in exploring themes around individuality, interpersonal dynamics, and the human condition. I am intrigued by how external pressures, personal experiences, and inner narratives shape our perception of self and influence how we navigate and perceive the world around us. I am particularly interested in how we—intentionally or unintentionally—contribute to and shape our environment; cities, landscapes etc, and how these contributions, in turn, define the identity of a space. This identity not only influences the experiences of those within it but also serves as a reflection of its contributors—an imprint of the space’s culture and energy. With a background in film, a degree in music, and experience as part of a public art collective, I hope to express and expand my practice into installation, immersive experiences, and sculptural forms.

How did you hear about Castlefield Gallery Associates and why did you want to join?

I discovered Castlefield Gallery Associates through Castlefield Gallery’s New Arts Spaces program while searching for a new studio space. My experience at New Arts Space Warrington led me to learn about the associate program and its offerings. I found it to be a welcoming and resourceful, community-focused program, which I have engaged with extensively. The membership provided a lot of initiatives, and I have connected with many artists already. Access to various resources, one-on-one advisory sessions, and member opportunities was a significant motivator for me to join.

What are you looking forward to most about your coming year’s membership?

A call-out opportunity was presented to associate members to host an event at the gallery— a unique chance to engage with the space where Kay Shah’s 40 Years of the Future: Degrees of Duality is currently exhibiting*. I am excited to host a live podcast within Kay’s exhibit, facilitating meaningful conversations with fellow associates and artists from New Arts Space about their work and experiences. This is something that would not have come together so serendipitously if I hadn’t been a member so I am grateful for the opportunity and very much looking forward to the event.

*This interview dates back from February 2025: the call-out is closed, and Degrees of Duality is no longer on show at Castlefield Gallery. The podcast Crónán is referring to has been recorded and is now available on Spotify. Learn more: breezyforcreatives.com
