Castlefield Gallery is awarded Manchester City Council Cultural Partnership Grant

Posted on 29 March 2026

Castlefield Gallery is selected by the city council in their Cultural Partnership funding programme, to distribute £1.24 million between 14 arts organisations over the next three years.

Helen Wewiora, Director & Artistic Director, Castlefield Gallery, shares:

“A huge thank you to Manchester City Council for its ongoing confidence in Castlefield Gallery – our programming, people, creative communities we work with, and the hundreds of artists we regularly support. Having celebrated 40 years of Castlefield Gallery in the previous funding period, the award comes at a critical moment as we look to our future.

Importantly, our 2026/27-2028/29 Cultural Partnership Grant will see an increase in investment from the city. This demonstrates recognition of the impact of our work and is much needed. It signals a clear valuing of Castlefield Gallery’s role in sharing the art and culture of the now and future, and made in Manchester, with the thousands of residents and visitors to the city we reach and engage year on year. The award reinforces the city’s vital commitment to fostering the conditions needed for a diversity of creative people to be able to make ambitious work, develop their careers, and to access national and international opportunities whilst living and working in the North of England. “

Gemma Redgrave, Vice-Chair of Castlefield Gallery shares:

“Castlefield Gallery has a reputation for high-quality, risk-taking contemporary art that opens doors for emerging artists who need a platform and for communities who deserve one. Support through the Cultural Partnership Grants programme allows us to demonstrate what is possible when artistic excellence and a genuine drive for inclusion are treated as the same ambition, not competing ones. Manchester deserves a cultural ecology as diverse and ambitious as the city itself. We intend to deliver it.”

We’re grateful to be awarded this funding which allow us to keep supporting artists to make new art happen. This programme is a recognition that arts and culture are an integral part of Manchester’s identity for everyone who lives in and visits the city.
