Castlefield Gallery is pleased to announce the 2018-19 Manchester School of Art Graduate Mentees as Joe Preston, Katie Tomlinson, and George Gibson.

Castlefield Gallery’s Director, Helen Wewiora selected the three artists from the 2018 Degree Shows.

Joe, Katie and George will now begin a yearlong programme, developed and delivered by Castlefield Gallery to support the artists in the first year after graduation.  They will each benefit from a bespoke programme of mentoring & guidance; practical workshops; a programme of local and national trips and visits to learn about and connect to a range of artist scenes and contexts; 12months honorary membership to Castlefield Gallery Associates with further professional development and training opportunities.

Helen Wewiora was also delighted to select BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate, Stephen Barr for the 2018 Leonard Little Fine Art Prize.  Leonard James Little studied Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University as a mature student and had very fond memories of his experiences studying here. The Prize was established in memory of him by his family, in 2011.

“Winning this prize is an unexpected honour and is particularly welcome coming from the Leonard James Little fund, set up in honour of a highly successful mature student to support fine art students. I hope to replicate some of the success that Leonard enjoyed and after being lucky enough to benefit from the optimism and energy of the younger students this prize will allow me to continue to the next stage of my career.” Stephen Barr, BA (Hons) Fine Art 2018
