Announcing the University of Salford Graduate Scholarship Cohort 2019/20

Castlefield Gallery will soon begin working with five recent graduates from the University of Salford who have been awarded a place on the University of Salford Art Collection and School of Arts & Media Graduate Scholarship Programme for 2019/2020. The programme is managed by Castlefield Gallery, the University of Salford Art Collection, and School of Arts & Media, and was established in 2013 to support early-career artists in their crucial first year after graduation. The Scholarships are open to all final year undergraduate students from the School of Arts & Media and are achieved via a competitive application process.

The successful applicants are: Mollie Balshaw, Fine Art, Heather Bell, Photography, Amy Brown, Fine Art and Bridget Coderc, Photography. They are joined by current MA Contemporary Arts Practice student Ieva Sedova.

They will each receive support that will be tailored to their individual needs and aspirations that will include:

  • an award of up to £1,000 cash,
  • funded studio space for 12 months at either Hot Bed Press, Islington Mill, Paradise Works or Mirabel Studios,
  • coaching, mentoring and guidance,
  • local and national trips to learn about and connect to a range of artist scenes and contexts in other cities
  • 12 months honorary membership to Castlefield Gallery Associates which includes further professional development and training opportunities.

Castlefield Gallery will deliver the programme in partnership with Hot Bed Press, Islington Mill, Paradise Works, Mirabel Studios and Redeye, The Photography Network.

The 2018/19 cohort of graduates who have recently completed the programme are; Heather Glazzard, Fashion Image Making and Styling; Alena Donely, Ovie Ist Kings Iruru, Sadé Mica, Katie McGuire, Visual Arts and Joshua Turner, Photography  who received mentoring from professional artists; Tara Darby, Michael Forbes, Sally Gilford, Kevin Hunt and, Lubaina Himid.
