Further On We Go by John McLeod at New Art Spaces: Warrington

05 May 2025 - 31 July 2025

Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces: Warrington

This site specific installation contemplates the state of shopping behaviour.

As the high street stores fall around us it considers where we are heading.

Intricately constructed for the New Art Spaces: Warrington window space, the assembly combines traditional and digital techniques to peer into the local past and imagine its uncertain future.

Made from materials found in and around the premises, John McLeod draws on a background in set design and architecture to create an arrangement of elements representing the hopes and fears of these changing times.

A long telescope and a mini periscope are the featured objects on display that look back and forward, set within a wide time frame portal to focus the view of passers-by. Strategically placed signs spell out the exhibition theme, echoing enticing internet buttons ready for clicks.

Beloved lost town shops slip into the void with their replacements observed through animated particle formations, as we move from the old consumer ways into the daunting and compelling virtual retail realm.
