‘At The Edge’ – John Capstack

23 October 1992 — 29 November 1992

“At The Edge”, an exhibition of the work of John Moores’ prizewinner John Capstack is likely to shock many people.

Capstack a Yorkshire man and one time Manchester Polytechnic student, depicts scenes of death, sex and violence but his paintings are not without a sense of humour.

He quotes artist Jean Debuffet who said…..

“Art must make you laugh a little and make you a little afraid. Anything as long as it doesn’t bore you”.

Capstack approaches painting with a rare honesty and courage, feeling himself to be merely recording and expressing the times in which we live.
