Walking Tour with Sally Stone, Laura Sanderson and Jonathan Djabarouti

18 May 2019 / 12noon-2:30pm

Sally Stone, Reader in Architecture, Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), Laura Sanderson, Senior Lecturer (MSA) and Conservationist Jonathan Djabarouti, will lead a tour looking at building reuse in Manchester city centre.

Building reuse is an environmentally sound method of regenerating the built environment, it also helps to retain the collective memory of the local population. Manchester has a long tradition of reusing buildings and the tour will include prominent and overlooked examples from Manchester’s industrial past to the present. The guides will share their expertise and knowledge of places where existing structures have been remodeled for different purposes such as the Royal Exchange Theatre, Arkwright House and 100 King Street (formerly the Midland Bank and now home to Jamie’s Italian and Hotel Gotham). The tour will begin in Sadler’s Yard outside New Century House and finish at Castlefield Gallery.
