Talk by Dr. Amanda Ravetz

Amanda will talk about convergences and differences between anthropology and art, referencing work from Practical Truths and drawing on her experience of running an international workshop for artists and anthropologists.

More on: Amanda Ravetz trained as a painter at the Central School of Art and Design and later completed a doctorate in Social Anthropology with Visual Media at the University of Manchester. She is currently Research Fellow at MIRIAD, Manchester Metropolitan University. She has carried out anthropological fieldwork on a housing estate, a farm, a factory and in an art school, looking at place, vision and knowledge. With Anna Grimshaw, she co-edited Visualizing Anthropology: Experiments in Image-Based Practice (2005, Intellect Books); and co-authored Observational Cinema: anthropology, film and the exploration of social life, published by Indiana University Press (2009).
