Spark #3

31 August 2022 — 3 September 2022 / 19:00-20:00 on 31st; 11:00-13:00 on 3rd

Spark #3 is a third in person meeting for Greater Manchester/North West-based artists who want to intervene in the trajectory towards climate breakdown, and is an opportunity to meet other artists and to share information and ideas.

Any group of artists will  have access to a wealth of resources between them, and Spark #3 will focus on finding out what our collective resources are. With a resource map, groups can easily find out who has particular skills, know-how, tools etc; people can also put in requests and identify gaps in the collective resource base. Using the free programme Padlet, we’ll initiate the resource map in an online session on the evening of 31st August, and we’ll review and add to the map in person on 3rd September. NB it’s fine to come to the in person meet-up without attending the online session.

To attend, please register at https://Spark_3.eventbrite.co.uk

Wednesday 31st August, 7-8pm: Online Resource Mapping Session
We’ll gather on Zoom to start a collective map of all the resources we have access to – knowledge, skills, equipment, venues, organisations etc. If you are coming to this session, please set up an account with Padlet beforehand.

Saturday 3rd September, 11-1 : In Person Meet-up, Rogue Studios
4 Barrass Street, Openshaw, M11 2LS (five minutes walk from Gorton railway station)

We’ll take a look at the resources that we’ve mapped and generate ideas for using them. It will be possible to add to the resource map at this point. However the main focus of the session will be to see what’s on the map and talk about how to use our collective resources.

Artist John-Paul Brown has offered to lead a walk from Manchester Art Gallery along the canal to Rogue; the walk will take about 90 minutes. If you’d like to walk to Rogue, please meet at the front steps of Manchester Art Gallery at 9am. The meet-up at Rogue will also include a making session using things found on the walk.

NB we’ll be using a space on the 2nd floor of Rogue and unfortunately there isn’t a lift. We will be looking for more accessible venues for future meet-ups.

Spark #3 follows on from Castlefield Gallery’s SUSTAIN programme focussed on low carbon artmaking and from our Spark #1 and Spark #2 sessions at Manchester Art Gallery. The Spark sessions are intended to help seed a new Greater Manchester/North West-based network of artists working low carbon.

If you can’t come to the event but would like to be put on the Spark email list, please email Jane Lawson at jane@castlefieldgallery.co.uk. NB by doing this, you will be giving consent for your email address to be shared with the other artists on the list.

Spark #3 is supported by Castlefield Gallery.
