November!

26 November 2014 / 18:30-20:30

For CG Associates members only

How to use critical writing to analyse other people’s work – and your own.

The session will be led by curator and writer Lauren Velvick and will give participants the opportunity to practice their critical and analytical writing, using the exhibition Hankering for Classification as a case study. Many artists find writing about their own work, for statements or for applications, difficult; writing about your own work in the third person can be a useful way to overcome this block. In the session, participants will write a short piece about some of the work in Hankering for Classification and then a short piece about their own work. We’ll also have a look about how different artists use writing on their own websites.

Lauren Velvick is a writer for Corridor 8 and director at the Exhibition Centre for the Life and Use of Books, and has curated the exhibition CJH. an exhibition of paintings by Christopher Joseph Holme, at PR1 Gallery, UCLAN Campus, Adelphi Street, Preston (until 14th November).
