Kashif Nadim Chaudry: Swags and Tails

27 September 2014 — 31 January 2015

Bold, Brave and Disgustingly Beautiful…

Blending a distinguished tailoring heritage, an uncompromising taste for mischief and bearing his soul as a gay, British Muslim, Kashif Nadim Chaudry’s exhibition will showcase a rare mix of skulls and stitches.

‘Swags and Tails’ is part of this year’s Asia Triennial Manchester festival. The exhibition explores family traditions, religion, sexuality and politics. Chaudry mixes traditional craft techniques with conceptual, sculptural forms, often using unusual and challenging materials.

Painstaking construction of his pieces absorbs weeks of his time, but the often repetitive tasks of sewing, threading and plaiting afford him time to reflect on his work and the themes that he is willing to explore.
