40 Years 40 Projects: the work of stephenson STUDIO

6 December 2019 — 22 December 2019
  • Castlefield Gallery presents 40 Years 40 Projects: the work of stephenson STUDIO.

Roger Stephenson founded Manchester based stephenson STUDIO in 1979. Since the studio’s inception the practice has been awarded over 40 national awards for buildings it has designed, and was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in 1998 for Quay Bar, Castlefield, and again in 2013 for the Chetham’s School of Music development. Stephenson STUDIO has received acclaim for the way it has dealt with new uses in terms of the historical context found in most British cities. In recognition of his services to architecture, Stephenson was appointed an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List of 2001.

This exhibition marks 40 years of the stephenson STUDIO presenting 40 of the Practice’s most striking projects, including highlights such as the new building for the Halle in Ancoats, the Stoller Concert Hall, Manchester Central and the Convention Centre.

The exhibition will also reveal something about Roger’s wider creative endeavours including painting, drawing and jewellery making.

Please note that the Gallery will be closed to the public all day on Wednesday 11 December, and will close from 16:00 on Tuesday 17 December due to private functions.
