COVID-19 safe measures:

The health of our staff and visitors is our highest priority, and as such we are taking a number of measures to ensure our building and galleries are safe and comfortable.

Read further to find out more about the steps we’ve taken to enhance on site health and safety in line with the latest government advice.

We are taking a number of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19

  • We will be reopening with our exhibition Soft Bodies. Paper copies of exhibition handouts will be available onsite to accompany the exhibition. We will ask that you either take your copy with you or dispose of it in one of the onsite bins before you exit. You can download an exhibition handout to a mobile device or to print in advance of visiting, please see here
  • Our entrance and exit will remain the same as before our COVID-19 lockdown closure period, at 2 Hewitt Street, M15 4GB.
  • We are carefully managing the number of people and have agreed safe limits for numbers of people entering our building at any one time to ensure there is ample space for social distancing.
  • Upon arrival please give those leaving the building ‘right of way’, maintaining 2 metres distance where possible. Occasionally you may experience a brief waiting period before entry.
  • We will display specific signage at the entrance to and around our building and galleries to encourage social distancing.
  • We will also encourage and ask you to maintain distance with other households when on site at the gallery (in line with current Greater Manchester lockdown rules, which are subject to change and we will update this page as and when advice changes).
  • In line with government advice, anyone visiting our building must wear a face covering unless you are genuinely exempt for health reasons or under the age of 11years old.
  • If you arrive at the building without a face covering and are not genuinely exempt or under the age of 11years old, you will not be granted admission. We will offer you a single use face covering, however any one refusing to wear a face covering will not be permitted to enter the building. This is for the safety of both our visitors and staff.
  • Test and Trace. We will be supporting the NHS Test and Trace service. We will need to collect some basic data from you on entry to our building to support this programme, this data will only ever be shared with the NHS if an outbreak of Covid-19 was identified from someone who had visited Castlefield Gallery. Data will be held for 21 days and will not be used for any purpose other than Test and Trace.
  • Our bathroom will be open, a wheelchair (unisex) accessible toilet available. We have made further adaptations to our bathroom to enhance COVID-19 safety.
  • We encourage visitors to make use of hand sanitiser stations around the building, in particular on entry, exit and also when entering and exiting our bathroom where there are also hand washing facilities.
  • We have implemented increased cleaning of communal areas, including high contact points such as door handles.
  • There will be trained staff on site at all times to answer any of your questions.
  • Please do not visit Castlefield Gallery if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. For more information on these please visit the NHS website.
  • We operate a zero tolerance policy towards disrespectful or abusive behaviour towards our staff, volunteers and other visitors, in person, over the phone or via any other communications channels.
