Supermedium: Reanimating the Past, Remembering the Future
10 December 2026
6pm - 8pm
Castlefield Gallery
Join University of Manchester History of Art placements Anisa Rizvi, Casey Smith and Eva Bielawski for a student-led evening responding to our current exhibition, Supermedium.
Through three interconnected workshops, explore and disturb the idea of comfort in a past, present and future.
The workshops include a guided tour around the gallery, exploring themes of nostalgia through the artists’ own considerations; a creative activity encouraging you to reflect on spaces where you have found comfort in the past; and a reflection exercise inviting you to consider what you might carry into the future, and how it might exist there.
These activities will be in dialogue with the exhibited works of Kelan Andrews and Petra Szemán, alongside archival materials from Cosgrove Hall Film Archives. Together, these different animated worlds explore the crossroads at which our perceptions of the world are shaped by our individual remembered experiences.
