Out Here: Looking Far Away From Close Up
28 May 2026
6pm - 8pm
Castlefield Gallery
Join us for a student-led takeover event delivered by University of Manchester Placement Students, Leni Cadle, Lucie Bellingham and Nikki Kinoulty, responding to our upcoming exhibition, Out Here – an exhibition that brings together the relationship between human and non-human worlds. The event aims to explore our own relationships with nature through the works of the exhibiting artists, Ashleigh Beattie, Shezad Dawood, Emelia Hewitt, Steve Sutton, Adam Rawlinson and Keziah Thomas-Mellor. The event will be informed by the students’ own research, as well as their responses to the exhibition and the inclusion of artists’ opinions on the exhibition themes.
The event will encourage guests to consider urgent and everyday questions: What does nature mean to you? How do daily interactions with the natural world shape the way we think, create and live? Though three guided workshops and a printed interactive catalogue, participants will be invited to consider access to nature in increasingly urban, gentrified environments, and whether it is possible to have a non-political relationship with the land —asking how we might reclaim a deeper connection to nature in a fast-paced, increasingly digital world.
