EXHIBITION & EVENTS ARCHIVE
“Look To This Day” is an exhibition curated by Castlefield Gallery from The Comme Ca Art Prize North 2003 nominees.
The exhibition explores historical referencing within an art and social history context, much of the work pointing to defining moments in art practice and social, political and environmental change.
Castlefield Gallery presents an exclusive insight into the world of award winning design duo EL ULTIMO GRITO, directed by Roberto Feo and Rosario Hurtado. This is a rare opportunity in the UK to see the breadth of their internationally renowned product designs.
The project space’s first resident will be James Hutchinson who has been using mass-produced, pre-stretched canvases to create copies of famous 20th century paintings. Entitled Karaoke Paintings, Hutchinson has produced the artistic equivalent of a slightly drunk person singing their favourite tune on a friday night, and trying their damnedest too.
The newly opened, purpose-designed Castlefield Gallery presents the conclusion of five recent commissions of the Variable-D Gallery – the poster and magazine based ‘virtual gallery’ space. The work includes digitally generated images from artists Dean Hughes, Padraig Timoney, Chris Speed, Stewart Home, and Suki Chan & Dinu Li.
Virtual Migrants respond to experiences of asylum seekers and themes of race, migration and globalisation in the multimedia installation “What If I’m Not Real”. This is the result of six individuals led by digital media artists Kuljit “Kooj” Chuhan and Aidan Jolly, plus Tang Lin (Writer), Miselo Kunda-Anaku (photographer), Jilah Bakshayesh (musician), and Hafiza Mohammed (textiles), in an ambitious three-screen video and sound installation.
“VERSUS” is a group exhibition of four emerging artists to celebrate the spirit of Manchester’s independant art scene.
