‘The Grotto Show’

25 November 2000 — 23 December 2000

Castlefield Gallery marks the closing of our doors to the general public, with the art-shopping alternative “The Grotto Show”.

THE GROTTO SHOW brings together more than 40 artists from the North West that have contributed to 16 successful years of the gallery in Manchester. From Liam Spencer, fresh from his recent painting show at the Lowry, to Preston based newcomer Chris Jones’ showing for the first time in Manchester.

The work in the show celebrates a diverse range of art in the region including photography, sculpture, art multiples, drawings and paintings. Highlights include: new work from observers of Manchester cityscape Liam Spencer and Martin Murray, photography by Clare Haynes celebrating the breath-taking New York skyline, and a tour around Hulme and Cheetham Hill streets in the digital images by Hilary Holt.

Discover the sculptures of Felicity Shillingford having worked with disabled theatre group ‘The Fittings Group’ alongside classical drawings of the human form by Mark Demsteader. Say ‘Cheers!’ to the ‘Every Street’ commemorative pint pot by Bill Longshaw for the traditional ale drinker in your life. But if you’re still undecided, take a chance on the ‘Lucky Dip’ created by James Hutchinson, Rachael Goodyear, Jonathan Trayner and Rob Vale – and have a memento of Castlefield Gallery to keep forever!

Other artists include: Graeme Cooper, Paul Cordwell, Nick Crowe, Jim Medway, Beverly Ann Hicks, Hilary Holt, Nick Jordan, Nalini Cook, James Campbell, Deborah Goldsmith, Michelle Leigh, Petra McCarthy, Fiona Moate, Adele Roberts, Felicity Shillingford, Adele White, Andrew Vaughn, Martin Vincent and many more…

THE GROTTO SHOW has joined forces with purveyors of cool MULE INTERIORS. The team has placed designer household objects next to the art to present ideas for the home, full of fun and the spirit of the festive season.
