New Art Spaces Chorlton: Open Day

Castlefield Gallery is pleased to be taking part in Chorlton Arts Festival 2016 by hosting an Open Day event at our New Art Spaces Chorlton.

The first public event at Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Spaces Chorlton. Join us to see new work by locally-based contemporary artists, and enjoy guided tours and a set by a cappella group Vocal Harum.

Castlefield Gallery launched New Art Spaces (NAS) in 2012 to make available temporarily empty properties to artists in which to create and present new work to audiences. From empty retail units, warehouses and office spaces, artists, artist groups and artist development agencies have been transforming these spaces into temporary project and pop-up exhibition spaces.

Facilitated by charity property provider Hammond Associates, CG has been able to take on two temporarily vacant office units at Christie Fields Office Park, Chorlton for developing new art and artistic talent in Manchester and the North West.

NAS Chorlton now has 18 artist projects working across the two units, supporting over 30 artists, including Manchester-based charity Venture Arts who began Outsider Xchanges at NAS Chorlton back in March. A year-long collaborative visual arts project in partnership with CG, BALTIC Gateshead and the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN) Outsider Xchanges is bringing together learning disabled and non-learning disabled artists to develop shared ideas and develop new contemporary work.

The Open Day event will include songs from Vocal Harum at 1:30pm and guided tours of the project spaces at 2pm and 4pm.
