Kino Kabaret

8 May 2004 / 20:30 - 00:30

Castlefield Gallery hosts the first Kino Kabaret to be held in the UK.
Presented in association with the Northern Film Network, and with the support of the University of Salford, Channel M & Quebec House.

Kino’00 is a Montreal-based non-profit organisation composed of more than a hundred video and cinema kamikazes. Launched in 1999 as a festive event where freedom-craving film-makers (called kinoïtes) and their wild and eclectic audience meet each month for an unpredictable (and free) evening of video shorts, Kino has since taken the world by storm. This year, Kino Kabaret events are scheduled to take place in Brussels, St Petersburg, Sao Paolo, Madison, Hamburg, Adelaide…

The Commonwealth Film Festival is thrilled to present the first ever Kino Kabaret held in the United Kingdom. We have invited four established kinoïtes from Québec, paired them with local filmmakers and set them loose in the streets of Manchester. Together they will shoot a series of films during the Festival, edit them in a futuristic kinolab and share them with the audience in a cabaret-style evening at Castlefield Gallery on Saturday 8th May featuring Montreal DJ Soul Sistah. Documentaries, essays, shorts on current events, art films and animations, these works are created in a spirit of total freedom of content. Come and join us at this fun, free event and see the result of this crazy experiment.

Admission is free but seats are limited so come early to avoid disappointment.
